When Gregory Hills Drive first opened in late 2017, the benefits for residents in Gregory Hills and surrounding suburbs were almost instantaneous. Nearly five months later, the advantages of this key piece of infrastructure are still being appreciated by residents. But work has not stopped since the road opening. Work has continued on the four lane road and now all lanes of Gregory Hills Drive are officially open in both directions, with the traffic lights at the top of the hill into St Gregory’s College now turned on. This now completes the construction of Gregory Hills Drive, a major milestone for the residents of Gregory Hills and the wider Camden and Campbelltown communities.
Gregory Hills is pleased to announce that La Valla Park is now open to the public. This beautiful open space is complete with winding footpaths that take you along a journey past bbq spaces, resting areas and soon to be constructed public art pieces. La Valla Park connects you to Gregory Hill Park which stretches the entire width of the estate, Gregory Hills Park also features its own dog park.
Public art is important as we build the Gregory Hills community, it is a way we can express our shared community values as well as enhance our environment and transform the landscape. It is there for everyone to share, a form of collective community expression.
The designers of the public art works at Gregory Hills have adhered to principles of connection and activation, form and desire combined with pieces while being respectful to heritage and history.
The new artworks will be focused around four main topics – Thomas Donovan, the Marist Brothers, Mount St. Gregory and St Gregory’s College. These topics all form a story that is significant and meaningful to the land upon which Gregory Hills sits and reflects the land’s rich history.
